1st Cologne Art & Animation Festival

Cologne Art & Animation Festival started in 2011 in order to give the artistic animation more relevance in the framework of CologneOFF on one hand, on the other hand this festival format was acting individually, as well as an integral part of the CologneOFF – Cologne International Videoart Festival.

The 1st edition is actually the result of extracting videos using artistic animation from the previous CologneOFF festival editions, only CAAF02 will release an open call for animation videos in 2012.

After CologneOFF has been discontinued after the 10th festival edition in 2014, CAAF is acting as an individual exhition format for artistic animation. In 2016, CAAF04 had been released, in 2020 a Jubilee edition will be realized.

What can be understood as artistic animation – a kind of counter position to the commercial animation films produced by the Disney Studios for instance. CAAF is encouraging artists to use the animation for creating artistic and, that’s important – non-commercial content, a type of animation following artistic concepts.
